Santiago de Chiquitos y Valle de Tucabaca

Santiago de Chiquitos is a small Jesuit Mission surrounded by the hills of Tucabaca Park, 600 m high and 150 km east of San José. From here start many walking trails through varying landscapes: forests, plains, and caves with rock paintings.

The track leading to the Tucabaca viewpoint merits its nickname of “antesaladelcielo” (the door to heaven) as it offers spectacular views of the great Tucabaca Valley, along the foot of magnificent rock formations shaped by wind. Within the more than 200,000 ha of protected dry Chiquitana forest live a great diversity of birds and mammals.

For hikers, the “Arco” (Arch) trekking is a must, as it combines culture and nature, with San Miserato cave and its tree ferns, the San Miserandino cave and its rock paintings and, evidently, the great natural rock arch itself.

If you would like to visit Tucabaca Park during your stay, please contact us and we will organize your trip
